Happy Halloween

I can’t believe October is over already. This year we haven’t really had time to carve a pumpkin. Maybe there will be some tonight. In the meantime I figured I would post a couple from years past. First is a Darth Vader pumpkin from about 3 years ago and then the video of my Cylon pumpkin from 2 years ago. I was thinking of doing another Cylon this year since I still have the electronics for that one. Tonight we just plan to watch a few horror movies and eat lots of candy. It should be fun.

Ubuntu 8.10 Released

It’s now official 8.10 has been released. I have one machine doing the update over network and I have also downloaded the iso. I’ve found a few more reviews and thought this one was pretty good. It goes over the top 10 main new features in the OS. I’m looking forward to trying the USB thumb drive install. It required a lot of work to get that going before, but now it is an option on the install disc.

Wolverine Wednesday

Every Wednesday this semester they have had Wolverine Wednesday. I think the school is doing it to try and promote school spirit. Every Wednesday you can get a J Dawg on campus and a treat for $3. However, if you are wearing green, then you get your J Dawg for $2 and a drink to go with it. It is a deal that cannot be beat and you get all the fixings. J Dawg’s has a special sauce which is like a really sweet BBQ that makes them taste really good. They are located at 880 North 700 East in Provo near BYU and I highly recommend them.

AT&T Free Wi-Fi

It looks like AT&T finally got their act together on the free wi-fi for iPhone users. Today I received a text about the announcement with a link for info on their site

They list wifi available at these locations:

  • Airports
  • Hotels
  • Universities
  • Convention Centers
  • Sports Centers
  • Starbucks locations
  • Restaurants
  • Bookstores
  • Supermarkets

I know Barnes & Noble and Starbucks in the Orem area has AT&T access, so that will be nice. Hopefully I will find some other places.

AT&T originally made an annoucement on their website about a month ago about free wi-fi for iPhone and then it was retracted. I imagine that now they are sending text messages to all iPhone users that it is pretty much a done deal.

Less Than 24 Hours To Go

Tomorrow Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex will be released. I figured in honor of the release I would change my website to a Ubuntu theme for the next day. We now have two computers at work running the desktop version and I hope to upgrade them before their servers get overloaded. I’ll post a review of my initial thoughts once I am able to get things going.

You can read about some of the new features on Ubuntu’s website about the Desktop Version and the Server Version

Like I said before I am going to leave my server at 8.04 since it is the long term support version and is good until 2013.

Below is a screenshot showing the spinning cube effect when changing desktops with compiz fusion enabled.
