Tonight at midnight the Clone Wars figures were released. Sarah and I first went to the Bloomington Wal-mart and about 10 minutes after midnight nothing happened. Another person waiting with us asked an employee. They told us they knew nothing about it and the manager over toys was gone until Monday. We decided then to try the Washington one. We made it to the toy aisle and nothing, so we figures we might have to wait util the morning. However, we saw a stocker and Sarah noticed it was a manager, so I asked him if any of the toys were going to be put out? He told us one pallet was already out near the opposite entrance we came In and another is on the way. When we got there we saw the Big millenium falcon and several other vehicles. A few minutes later the stocker came back with the pallet of figures. There was only three of us collectors and a couple of kids. Everyone pounced on the pallet before it was even in place. I try to be a little more stingy these days so we only picked up 5 figures between us. The other collectors loaded up their carts and spent well over $100 each. It was fun to do this again since the last time was a couple of years ago with revenge of the with. Hopefully it won’t be the last.
Lots of great toy and movie news from Comic Con and it is only the first day. First is some great movie news.
Hasbro had a panel that discussed the new G.I. Joe movie that will be out next year. It sounds like it is going to be good. Also they are going to release a new cartoon based on the original 80s characters, but this one isn’t geared to kids, but to us older fans. The cartoon is apparently going to have a PG-13 rating, so it will be much more adult than anything that has been released. I hope it turns out well. The whole panel article can be read here at comingsoon.net
Another surprise was some footage that was shown from Tron 2. The footage was of a lightcycle race. I hope the footage gets released on the internet sometime soon, so everyone can see. A description of the footage can be read again at comingsoon.net
As for Toy news there was also lots. Some of the highlights for Star Wars are a new Target exclusive Battle at the Sarlacc battle pack which includes a rerelease of the tatooine skiff. The skiff was last released 10 years ago. Also to go with the Clone Wars is a Toys R Us exclusive Arc 170 rerelease and Wal-Mart exclusive Republic Gunship. I need to pick up the Gunship this time around to go with all the clones I have picked up over the years. Also shown was the AT-TE which is one huge vehicle. It will be released here in a couple of days when all the Clone Wars figures come out.
Transformers so far they have shown the already announced G1 Optimus Prime reissue which will be released for the 25th Anniversary on Black Friday this year. There are supposed to be some more surprises for the 25th Anniversary, but that might be the next day or two. I’m hoping for a few more reissues.
Finally, tonight I received an email about the auction tomorrow. It included a few small pics of the display cases showing all the great items for auction. It looks like a Kenner museum. I really wish I could be there just to get a look at all the great items. The prices are all way out of my reach at the starting bids. All the items for auction though can be viewed in the downloadable catalog which is fun to just look through. The auction can be viewed live tomorrow at premiercollect.com Hopefully some better pictures will show up online.
Last week was Star Wars Celebration Japan. It is the 30th anniversary this year in Japan so they held a Celebration there this year. I was browsing rebelscum and looking at some of the slides from the collectors panels. I got to one of a presentation that was about an introduction to collecting. I was clicking through and when I got to the third slide I couldn’t believe it. There was my display shelf showing my set of vintage figures! There have been many similar shelves made which a couple of collectors have modeled theirs off of mine. They added more space for some of their variations, so I was really surprised that my picture was chosen for the slide.
The panel was presented by super collector Chris Georgoulias who is a major contributer to one of my favorite websitesThe Star Wars Collectors Archive. All of the slides of the presentation can be viewed at rebelscum.com
Yesterday I found out that I had today and tomorrow off of work. We decided to make a trip to St. George. Nobody knew we were coming. This weekend is also comic con in San Diego, so I will be posting some news from the event. The big thing that I wished I could attend is one of the biggest collections of vintage star wars ever auctioned. There are going to be many rare and high grade items that I wish I could at least have seen in person. Hopefully some pictures will surface online.
Rather than screenshots I figured I would just share the wordpress video demo. It gives a good idea of how the app works. I also learned the wordpress app is going to be completely open source which is very cool. The source code hasn’t been released yet, but should be soon. For anyone interested the official iPhone wordpress page is http://iphone.wordpress.org/
