utahswclub.org

I received an email from godaddy a couple weeks ago for 30% off on a domain name. It expired today, so I decided to go ahead and buy utahswclub.org for the Utah Star Wars Collecting Club website. Domains are pretty cheap these days. They are normally $9.99 anyway on godaddy, so with the coupon I saved a couple of bucks. I remember the old days when it was $75 for two years and the only site you could register with was internic. How times have changed. Tonight I also took some time and created a flyer that could be passed along or put on the pegs with the figures at stores. Below is a small example of one of the flyers. I have for download on the actual site a pdf with 4 on a page.

Goodbye Sprint

I managed to find someone to take over my Sprint contract. Everything was official on Friday. Today I mailed the phones off to the person I made the arrangement with. Because we weren’t able to just cancel our current service we were not able to keep our old numbers. We’re in St. George now and decided to go ahead and sign up with AT&T. Wal-mart has a deal right now where the Palm Centro is only $50 with a new plan, so Sarah and I both did this. I will now be getting the iPhone on launch day and then I will just sell my Centro. I am really liking it and find it to be a very nice phone. If I was sticking with palm I would definitely keep it. I will be sending out an email shortly with my new number.

That’s No Moon

It’s a space station! Lego is coming out with a new Deathstar Playset. The first one released was simply the outside view. This one however has lots of different play environments on the inside from A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. Some of the highlights include: the trash compactor, cell block shoot out to rescue Princess Leia, and the final duel with Vader and Luke. I however will not be getting this set it has a hefty price tag of $399. Maybe if I was more of a diehard Lego collector I would go for it, but as it is the main Lego set I have is an X-wing and a few smaller sets. The video below was taken at Brickworld in Chicago.

G.I. Joe Teaser Posters

Teaser posters have shown up for the new G.I. Joe movie that comes out next summer. Hopefully this one will turn out to be as good as Transformers was. Next year will be a good year we have this and the next Transformers movie coming out. It’s 1986 all over again.

“The film stars Channing Tatum, Dennis Quaid, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Rachel Nichols, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Said Taghmaoui, Marlon Wayans, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
From the Egyptian desert to deep below the polar ice caps, the elite co-ed GI JOE team, based from it’s headquarters The Pit, deploys the latest in next-gen spy and military equipment to fight crooked arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious COBRA organization from plunging the world into chaos.”

Utah Star Wars Collectors Club

I’ve had the idea for setting this up for over a year now. I was hoping last year at Celebration IV to go to the Collecting panel on starting up a club, but unfortunately it was on a day that we were not able to attend. I figured with some of the free time I have over the summer I would be able to get a website up and going and see if there was any interest. I think setting up a club would be a great way to meet other collectors in the area. Some clubs go as far as having formal meetings and such. I think some of those would be good, but at the same time a more casual setting would be fun too where everyone can just get together and talk about the movies, collecting or whatever. Getting to know other collectors in the area also helps greatly with networking. I wouldn’t have gotten half of the figures I wanted last year if it wasn’t for another Utah collector that I met on a message board. I was glad I was able to return the favor and get him the Celebration exclusive figures when we went to L.A.

Anyone is free to join. The temporary url is http://www.kemple.us/~utahswclub/ any comments and feedback are welcome.
