The End of the Earth

The brick and mortar store that is. The earth is a collectible toy store in Cincinnati Ohio that has been around for a long time. I have made a few purchases from them on their online store. The main benefit they had over the other dealers is that they are located in the exact same city that Kenner was. Because of this they have uncovered many rare and mint employee items over the years. I always hope sometime I would get a chance to visit, but they have decided to close their doors and deal only online. The same thing happened with Intergalactic Trading Company in Florida. I visited this store in the early 90′s on a family trip and bought the first of my vintage Star Wars figure collection. They closed up their store a couple of years ago and moved to online and conventions only. A member at rebelscum made one last visit. These are some pictures that he took. The thread can be read on rebelscum
Here is a link to the website of The Earth It is rumored they will be doing a complete redesign of their site. Which is much needed. It looks like something out of the late 90′s.

The last picture is of particular interest. It shows a box flat for the X-Wing toy with the Revenge of the Jedi logo. Several boxes were made up with the Revenge logo before the movie was changed to Return of the Jedi. They were never shipped to stores with the Revenge title.

Airport Upgrade

Half of the day today the site has been down. The reason being our Airport Extreme Base Station has a short in the cable. I think a power surge over night happened to trigger it to turn off. I bought the base station used on ebay about a year ago and unfortunately it came with the cable with the short. Since then Apple came out with a new model that supports 802.11n and I have been wanting one for sometime. However, Apple’s wireless products are always more expensive than the competition. I managed to score one on ebay last weekend for $99 it was an open box one but it appears to be working great. They retail for $179. The new Airport allows you to use a USB hard drive over the wireless to use with Time Machine. It also comes with a built in switch with 3 gigabit ethernet ports. My plan is to sell the old one for around $30 and then I also have a separate 5 port gigabit switch I was using that I hope to get $20 for. If anyone knows someone that might be interested in them let me know. To replace the power adapter on the old airport it would cost about $10. The old one also has a USB port that you can use to make your printer wireless. So far I am liking the new one. My connection speed now with my laptop is 130 Mbit/s so just has fast as a 100 Mbit wired connection. I am going to have to try some file copying tests to see how well it performs. Here is a pic of what the new base station looks like. Pretty much like a Mac Mini but a little thinner.

Soundwave to be in Transformers 2

IGN in an interview with the writer for Transformers 2 revealed that Soundwave will be one of the Decepticons in the new movie. This is exciting news for me. Soundwave has always been a favorite Transformer of mine and is actually the first one that I can remember getting as a child around 1985. He originally turned into a cassette player and then had little cassettes that could transform as well. I’m sure he will take a new form in the movie since that form is now a little antiquated. I currently have 3 Soundwave reissues in my collection. 2 from Japan and 1 that was released in the U.S. Here is a picture taken a couple years ago with the two Japan reissues and my Soundwave T-Shirt in all my geeky glory. The funny thing is I’m actually wearing this shirt today.

Buying His Own Toys

Website thislondon.co.uk posted pictures of Harrison Ford himself buying Indiana Jones merchandise. Looks like no one is safe from George Lucas’ licensing empire. Not even Indiana himself. I have been trying not to go crazy with these toys. So far I just have the one Indiana figure and I know Sarah wants to get the Taters of the Lost Ark (Mr. Potato Head Indiana Jones) toy to go with the rest of our Spuds. We bought our tickets last week for the movie and actually ended up with an extra one. Anyone that lives near us and would like to go please email me. It is a Jordan Commons at 4:10. They are reserved seats so no waiting in line either.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail Lego Style

I was shown this video today at work and couldn’t stop laughing. Someone went to great lengths to do this and it really paid off.
