Xbox 360 Fall Update

The new fall update for the 360 added a feature I have wanted since launch. The ability to play divx and xvid files. I downloaded the dash update and popped in Battlestar Galacatica Razor hoping it would play. Unfortunately I was presented with a message that I had to connect to Live in order to get the media update portion of the Fall Update. I tried for the last two days to sign up for Live with the free silver account and kept getting errors. I found out last night that you can sign up on xbox.com, so I went that route and it worked. I then just had to sign in on the xbox with my Windows Live id and password. I must say I am pretty impressed that it works so well. That was one of the original reasons I bought an original xbox in the first place. Now if I can just figure out how to put videos on the 360 hard drive or setup my imac to stream the videos to the 360 I will be all set.

G1 Megatron

Today I learned something new about a 25 year old toy. I found out the original Megatron can have the gun barrel up along his back like in the original cartoon series. The instructions that came with the original and the reissues have always shown the gun barrel on the side. From what I understand that is how he was supposed to be transformed. The animators actually transformed the toy wrong and that is why in the cartoon the barrel was in the back. I found a youtube video today showing how to transform him to look like the cartoon. Here are some comparison pics showing the transformation from the instructions, the new transformation, and a pic from the cartoon.

Ring of Death Strikes Again

Last week the Xbox 360 decided to give us the Red Ring of Death again. It has been really crazy with school that I haven’t had a chance to look at it until today. Luckily it looks like the screws had just loosened from my initial xclamp replacement mod. I retightened the screws and VOILA it came back to life with the familiar boot up screen and sound. I’m guessing this happened just from the heating and cooling that is going on inside the 360 causing the motherboard and screws to expand and contract. This time though I did decide to buy an extra cooling unit to attach to the 360. I am about ready to buy a replacement case since the original 360 case is such a pain to take apart. I’m sure Microsoft did that for a reason to try and keep us curious folks out.
