RIP Netscape

AOL has announced that Netscape will officially die on February 1st, 2008. I am not surprised since AOL hasn’t really taken good care of Netscape. AOL bought Netscape in 1998 and that was probably around the last time the I actually used it as my browser of choice. I remember when we first got signed up with Infowest in St. George. I downloaded Netscape for WIndows 3.11 from a BBS, so we would be all ready to go. I believe that was version 1.2 or something like that. It was at least a little while before Internet Explorer came on the scene. I think had Microsoft actually played fair Netscape might still be a decent browser. At least now Firefox is a excellent alternative.

Ironhide and Ratchet After 23 Years Find Heads

Yesterday I received my Ironhide and Ratchet reissues from Japan. They would have been here Christmas Eve, but we were in St. George. The toys are exactly like the originals except for one thing. Takara decided to include cardboard heads that resemble the original characters. The first two years of Transformers were toys taken from various Japanese toys. Ironhide and Ratchet would originally have had a pilot to man the robots, so the toys had little resemblance to their cartoon versions. That is why the original toys didn’t have heads. Just a little sticker on the seat that resembled a robot face. Here are two pictures I took of them. The first is how they originally were in the 80′s. The second show them now with the cardboard heads.

Mouse Is Mighty Again

About a month ago my mighty mouse decided to stop scrolling completely. This has happened to me before and usually it can be fixed by just pressing down firmly on the scroll wheel and moving it around to loosen an debris. However, this stopped working, I tried using rubbing alcohol and lots of other methods I read online. I then found this site mightymouserepair.com/ I didn’t really want to take my mighty mouse apart like that, but since it got to the point of that or buy a new one I figured it was worth a shot. The operation went for the most part quite smoothly. I found out that the little rollers had lots of threads that looked almost like lint that was stopping it from scroller. I pulled off the lint and then cleaned them with alcohol for good measure. Once I had everything together everything was working except scrolling up. I took it apart again and found a little plastic clip I had bent. Luckily it went back into place without breaking. Good thing I tested it first before I super glued the ring back on. Anyway now it is working like new again. Hopefully for another year. Continue reading

New Office Setup

Well after two days of playing around with things I think I finally have my office setup again how I want it. I moved my computer desk over by the windows against the wall and then moved my Star Wars vehicle shelf over where my computer desk was. The changes definitely give it a more roomy feel which I like. The pics do not really give it justice, but it at least gives you an idea of where things are. Click on the thumbnails for larger images.

Duke Nukem Forever Closer To Reality

A teaser trailer was released today for Duke Nukem Forever. This game has been 10 years in the making so far. I hope it is worth the wait. The original was such a blast to play. Hopefully soon we’ll get some in game footage.
