Leopard is Here!
Leopard finally released last night at 6:00. Unfortunately our bookstore is not getting a copy until next Wednesday. I however have had some experience with it from some “trusted sources.” So far I am enjoying it and very impressed. So far I haven’t found any incompatibilities with any of my programs. For anyone interested there is a great in depth review at http://lunapark6.com/os-x-105-leopard-review.html to get an idea of the new features.
My nephew and I decided to go to Simply Mac’s launch party. I was hoping for some free shirts or something, but there wasn’t anything like that. However we were given a piece of cake and water. Below are a pic of the cake and a shot of my nephew using a Mac Pro with a stuffed Leopard on top.

Win a trip to Rancho Obi-Wan
Today I found out about this contest to win a trip for two to California and visit Rancho Obi-Wan. For those that don’t know Rancho Obi-Wan is the home to one of the world’s largest Star Wars Collections. It is a barn that collector Steve Sansweet converted to house his collection. Steve has been the author of several Star Wars collector books and even was handed a job at Lucasfilm for Fan Relations in the 90′s just before the Special Edition movies came out. He has a new book coming out the end of the month called The Star Wars Vault which includes reproductions of many rare Star Wars items. It also includes 2 audio discs with rare Star Wars content including Carrie Fisher singing the Star Wars theme from the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special.
Anyway I encourage anyone to enter as long as I get to be one of the guests to go if you win.
It would be a dream come true to see his collection in person.

Evolution of a Hero
Target had this nifty two pack with Bumblebee as a Classic Camaro and the Concept Camaro. After some hesitation I finally decided to pick one up. Today I have been working a lighting assignment for my cinematography class. We can only use natural light and a bouncer. I think I might go with this picture, but I still have a couple of days to play around with things.
Server Upgrade
This month must be OS month with Leopard next week and today Ubuntu 7.10 was released. The upgrade went successfully with no apparent hiccups. I of course did a full backup of the system just in case. The whole process took about 2 hours which I was pretty happy with since I’m sure their servers are being hammered right now. I was originally going to wait, but I decided to go ahead and give it a go.
There have already been some great reviews for the desktop version. I highly recommend it to anyone looking into an alternative to Windows. The great thing is that you can try it by booting up off the install cd which is also a Live disc. That means you can try out the desktop and everything off the disc without having to install on a hard drive.
This new version also by default comes with compiz fusion which gives you some nifty graphical effects like that of OS X. My favorite part though of Ubuntu has to be it’s package manager. This lets you add and remove programs from one place. No need to go and hunt down the program you want. It also automatically installs all dependent programs automatically for you. That was always one of my biggest gripes about Linux. I would find a program I wanted to try, but then found out I had to hunt around the internet for several other packages and try to get them working as well. That is no longer a problem with Ubuntu.
Anyway I think I have rambled on enough. Now just a week until Leopard. ![]()

Another Battery Update
Well after 3 more calls to Apple I think I finally have another battery on the way. I was notified today that it has shipped, but I am waiting for DHL tracking to show up. Hopefully this time it will have the right address finally. I am also hoping it gets delivered while Sarah is home so I do not need to make another trip to American Fork DHL and deal with their horrible customer service.
update: Just received word from Sarah that the battery was delivered. She put it in my laptop and it is now charging. Finally!
