AT&T Utopia is a Joke

I just recently recieved a letter from AT&T saying they are going to disconnect my service on January 15th for my fiber internet connection. The reason being that I do not have a wired landline telephone to my house. This has to be one of the dumbest things I have heard. As soon as I received the letter I called MSTAR. I asked them if they had the same rule in their contract and they lady kind of chuckled. I think she thought I was crazy asking if I needed to have a landline in order to sign up for their internet service.

Now the kicker is this AT&T and MSTAR both use the Utopia network. I will be using the exact same equipment to connect to the internet and exact same line. The only difference is who gets my money for the bill.

When I signed up for AT&T the customer service rep told me that they needed a landline number to sign me up. I told him I just used my cell phone, but that I did have a number that was assigned to my DSL modem. He said that would probably work, so I gave him the number and I did explain that my DSL service had been cut off. He did not say that I would have any problems. I feel that it is their fault for telling me I could sign up.
